While sitting on a patio with friends one Sunday afternoon, we were enamored by the small birds that would come dangerously close to our toes to eat the morsels of food that had fallen below during our meal. Charming as they are, we were surprised that they weren't the delicate and flighty creatures we had always chalked them up to be. A good friend exclaimed, "That starling's got moxie!" We giggled and after a moment we realized, he was absolutely right. I started to notice that I was surrounded by a great group of people who were just as gutsy, but in their own way. To The Starling Moxy!
Columbus Alive has been doing weekly articles titled "What are you wearing?" for years. Awesome Idea. I've loved it since I was in high school and I could giggle and be inspired by the completely crazy and sometimes interesting duds spread out in our local weekly "not-your-average-publication".
This is not enough.
To put it VERY simply... inspiration is EVERYWHERE.
Also, there are far too many expressive and talented people in our town not to highlight their creativity and unique ensembles whenever you can!
Over the years, most everyone has become more relaxed around me and my camera because they have gotten used to having no idea what I may actually be photographing. They also know that I respect every one that I photograph, and they trust that I will only show them in a good light. My aim has always been to highlight beauty in the unexpected. It could be a pattern on a wall, two girls with vintage bags standing next to another at a concert, or when the socks on one girl happen to coordinate perfectly with the shoes on the man standing next to her. These relationships may be coincidental, but not in my eye. I see them as moments of fortuitous beauty.
So, with camera in hand, I will continue to document all of these things and share them here.
My goal is to become more than the silent observer I have been in the past... so watch out, I just may ask to take your picture!
